We first played here for Dex's B-day party. Then maybe once a month to every 6 weeks. We opened for Chuck E. Weiss and had some great times here.
A very special gig. The Barn Dance had originally been at the Palomino until that club closed. Ronnie had hosted Dwight Yoakum, James Inveldt, The Blasters, Jim Lauderdale and more over the years and it was still considered a premier showcase for Americana music. A big "get" for us to be invited to play- and to be invited back.
This was a big one for us. The iconic club had hosted everyone from early 70's bands like the Eagles and CSNY to just about any contemporary artist you can name. We played here after we released our album.
This in-store set was a big deal for any band to get to play. This was on Sunset at the greatest record store in the land. A tiny stage and just so much fun.
We played a couple of times at this Melrose club - we would do multiple sets and close with a dance set featuring songs like "I'll Take You There" and such. Shane the doorman became a friend as well...
This was a fun memory as we played both the original version that was a tiny long narrow club and the re-opening, re-configured club at double the size. We even did a residency of a month of Tuesdays. A great learning experience to have to fill 3 sets a night at a nationally known venue with great taste in booking. We also played a SRO showcase here as we looked for a new label.
Usually a dance club, they occasionally hosted bands and this is where our record label first saw us.
This west-side club had us at various times - under both venue's names - we even recorded a live set here, sponsored by the owners, which might be on a compilation somewhere...
This was the site of our record release party for "Feel Free To Do So", a very hip club that hosted everyone from us to it's closing night featuring Alanis Morissette.
This valley club actually dropped the curtain on us, LOL. Or rather a video screen. Some dispute over music style or...?
On the Santa Monica Pier, we played this venue multiple times and always had a blast! It was our warm up prior to Super Soap Fan Weekend at Disney World (where we performed for around 5k people all crammed into mainstreet!)
A one off charity event
A GREAT independent record shop in Santa Monica, they had their own label as well as a choice collection of vintage and hard to find titles. They were really supportive of us and this was a little acoustic set.
This was a one time shot for us in Solana Beach, CA as we started to expand our reach. Great club. Great sound and stage. We opened for The Hellecasters - a tremendous guitar virtuoso group that included Jerry Donahue - whose signature tele Dex played!
Studio Instrument Rentals was a seminal place for us; we rehearsed here in small and large rooms, had a showcase here (that weirdly, Roger Daltry showed up at). Our original sound guy - Fred Rose - went on to become the VP and operations manager in the company. (And I still call him for favors - Dex)
Great outdoor gig for a great cause. We did not run however.
We played for about 15k people at the Pomona Fairplex both years. In '95 the headliners were John Anderson and Martina McBride and in '96 we "opened" for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
Played horseshoes, played music, did some good.
Put together by Jon's then GF, this was a fund raiser - our first time back from our hiatus.
A telethon performance with Dave Koz!!!
An amazing venue up in Santa Cruz - Phil's fave.
San Luis Obispo on the beach clebrating the marriage of the clams. Yes, this happens every year. And, yes, we played there.
So fortunate to play these Nashville venues. Nationally recognized clubs and some of the best in Nashville, we did our two showcases for new labels here.
An acoustic set (natch) in a beautiful park setting.
....
....
Well, actually the pre-game party tent. We opened for the Bud Light "girls" band. If you know, you know.
KPFK twice with full concerts and interviews, KPIG for interview and very early acoustic numbers, we appeared on The Easter Seals Telethon (Pasadena Civic) also a local morning show, at around 5 in the morning and on Nashville TV for an interview as well...
If only we could remember them all...
